Do you have a “God-pocket”?

Has it happened to you? That your plans have changed! It happened to me this weekend. As I wrote to some of my friends I had set up a date with Tax-Return. I thought that while others were out dating their sweethearts I might as well get my once-a-year duty to the IRS done. Those were my plans!

My plans included a little get-away in Branson, not to watch any shows but just to get away from the house and see some other scenery. On my way down there I stopped at the office to wish my co-workers a Happy Valentine. That’s when the Lord stepped in and made a little change in my plans. As I was walking out I was given an audio book to listen to. And that is what I have been doing instead of keeping my resolve to get everything done for my taxes.

You might have read the book “The Prayer of Jabez” by Bruce Wilkinson. He has come out with a new book, “You Were Born for This,” and that is the audio book somebody let me borrow. It’s a book about experiencing miracles on a regular basis, and about being used of God to bring about those miracles. I highly recommend this book. If you buy the audio version, the author himself does the reading!

Something that really hit home with me is the author’s God-Pocket. He sets aside money to use especially to bless people that God will direct him to encourage. That has led him to many interesting encounters with people, when this God-money has been used to bring a special greeting and answer to prayer to someone’s crucial need. Like the time God notched him to give his God-Pocket money to a waitress in South Africa. It was the exact amount this lady needed to pay her rent and avoid being put out on the street.

I remember something else that also has to do with South Africa and money. An evangelist that God was guiding to expand his ministry had a complaint that his pocket-book was empty. The Lord than asked him, “Have you taken a peek into my pocket-book?” This man of God needed to plan, not according to his meager finances but according to God’s abundant resources.

Most of the time we concentrate on what God can do for us and what we can do for God. The book I’ve spent the weekend with teaches how to turn our focus to “What God can do through us for others.”

“What are you waiting for?” was the message I listened to Saturday evening on the Hour of Power from the Crystal Cathedral. It was such an inspiring word on getting out there and living our life for God climbing the mountains by faith. These programs are like getting a shot of positive faith-adrenaline. Through the interviews they conduct on every program I have “met” so many interesting people over the years. In fact, it was through this program I first heard about this new Bruce Wilkinson book.

God has miracle missions for us but he is looking for volunteers. He has chosen to do his work through us. We can be partners with God in delivering miracles. With a “God-Pocket” mentality the extraordinary can become everyday opportunities to be one of God’s delivery people.

Get the book and make yourself a God-Pocket. And check out the web site youwerebornforthis.com.

I don’t mind a change in plans when they are as good as this weekend has been!

I like that “God Pocket” idea.
