God’s Gift of Power

Jesus is God’s Perfect Gift. Thanks to Jesus and his coming; his life, his death on the cross, his resurrection, we can have a Powerful Gift. Jesus himself promised it before leaving his disciples.

Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

As by Jesus’ instructions they waited in Jerusalem, joined together constantly in prayer… Then came the day of Pentecost…

Acts 2:2-4
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

This Gift was not only for those first followers of Jesus. “God does not show favoritism” (Rom 2:11). What he does for one, he does for all. And this Gift of Power is also for you and me.

Acts 2:38-39
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

On the last and greatest day of one of the Feasts in Jerusalem, Jesus stood and proclaimed in a loud voice,

John 7:37-39
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

You can have the streams of living water flowing from within you. It’s God’s Gift of Power to you.

Acts 4:31
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Acts 13:52
And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

In Ephesus the believers had not heard the news about the Gift of Power, but they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus, and…

Acts 19:6
When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

Think about all the Christmas hustle and bustle as the wrapping, the box. The Gift is inside! With Jesus, and accepting Him as Lord and Savior, comes the big Gift of the Holy Spirit.

Pray that this Christmas will be the time when you are filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Pray that you will speak in tongues and prophesy and speak God’s Word boldly.

The Promise of Power was for the first Christians but is just as much for you and me. Paul explains about the spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.
There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

To each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

  • to one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom
  • to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit
  • to another faith by the same Spirit
  • to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit
  • to another miraculous powers
  • to another prophecy
  • to another distinguishing between spirits
  • to another speaking in different kinds of tongues
  • to still another the interpretation of tongues

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

Accept God’s Powerful Gift of the Holy Spirit. Let his power fill you so the streams of living water will flow from within you to touch the world.

The promise is for all whom the Lord our God will call!

My husband and daughter Eva-Marie have been promoted to Heaven. Carina is married to Thom Cole and they have given me four gourgeous grandchildren, even five (teen-age John). I will be writing about my life, past and present, blended with visions for the future. My deepest desire is to spread the “seed of love”–inspiration to serve God and our neighbors with love and compassion.
