Better than the American Dream

What’s the American Dream? It’s a dream of reaching success in America, that’s how I understand it. But there is something better and much more valuable—it’s achieving success through God’s blessings. That’s the kind of success I want!

It was our Independence Day yesterday. I didn’t go anyplace but in the evening I enjoyed some fireworks through television. I took my little camera and flashed picture after picture, until the poor little thing was all warm. The quality is not the best but since I was “picturing” (like my grandkids say!) from the TV-screen I think they turned out quite fine. I took a video when they sang God Bless America but that one is posted on Facebook.

Let me give you some scriptures you can hold on to, praying and believing for the “real” success. I was reading about Joseph this morning, how the Lord was with him and gave him success in whatever he did.

That’s also what it says about David, that in everything he did, he had great success (1 Sam 18:14). The same thing we read about King Hezekiah (2 Kings 18:7).

This is King Jehoshaphat’s advice:

“Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful” (2 Chronicles 20:20).

Read these scriptures to inspire your faith:

Psalm 1:1-3; Proverbs 16:3; 3:5,6; Psalm 20:4; 128:1,2.

Do you want to serve the Lord in a greater capacity? Make the prayer of Jabez your prayer also:

1 Chronicles 4:10
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

The American Dream is about monetary prosperity. I’m talking about prosperity that counts for eternity. I want to prosper in my service to God and my fellowmen (women also!).

Dream about God’s blessings in your life!

About kelund

My name is Kerstin Anderas-Lundquist. I was born in Sweden to Per & Brita Anderas, on March 6, 1946. In 1948 we left to begin a missionary life in Chile; in 1956 we moved on to Peru. On May 1, 1969 I married an all-Swedish guy from Karslkrona: Bengt Göran Emanuel Lundquist. God blessed us with two daughters: Eva-Marie Elizabeth and Ruth Carina. We served as missionaries in Peru and Bolivia. In 1988 we moved to the United States to work at Life Publishers in Miami, Florida. I was to assist in developing the line of Sunday School Curriculm in Spanish known as Vida Nueva. I live in Springfield, Missouri, and am retired from work at the Assemblies of God Headquarters. My husband and daughter Eva-Marie have been promoted to Heaven. Carina is married to Thom Cole and they have given me four gourgeous grandchildren, even five (teen-age John). I will be writing about my life, past and present, blended with visions for the future. My deepest desire is to spread the “seed of love”–inspiration to serve God and our neighbors with love and compassion.
