Strong in the Lord

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5).

Be strong in the Lord

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (Ephesians 6:10,11)

Here is a man who was strong in the Lord. We probably all know about Samson, the man with the long hair. God gave him extraordinary strength. Read about him in Judges chapters 13 through 16. The secret was in his hair. But he gave away the secret to a woman who enticed him, and he fell in the hands of his enemies. What a sorry end of his life, bound with shackles and grinding in the prison of the enemy!

But God granted him a final request. When the Philistines assembled to offer sacrifice to their god Dagon, to celebrate that he had delivered Samson in their hands, they brought out Samson to entertain them.

When they stood him among the pillars, 26 Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.” 27 Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. 28 Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.” 29 Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, 30 Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived. Judges 16:25-30

I know a secret. You might also know it. The JOY OF THE LORD is our strength. Rejoice in Him in all circumstances. His joy is our strength, but more than that the Lord himself in our strength.

Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Beware of the enemy! Don’t be enticed by the glamor of sin. Keep you eyes on Jesus. He is your Strength. He is your Joy.

What’s on my list for today? The usual for a day like this. I’m writing a story about a girl who discovered the marvels of the stars, that God names each one by name; that there are more stars than sand by the sea. The marvels of God’s creation are unfathomable. And this great God offers us his friendship. This great God is our Savior, our Lord and King.

Be strong in His power. Rejoice in his Joy!
