Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass. Joshua 21:45
“And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” Joshua 23:14
After reading Max Lucado’s book “Glory Days” I dove into the Book of Joshua. Lucado’s book is based on Israel entering the Promised Land.
It has been a very interesting read. I highly recommend Lucado’s book and, of course, God’s book about his servant Joshua.
What an amazing man! Joshua, I mean. What an astonishing assignment! To bring the people into Canaan and to conquer the land and give each of Israel’s tribes their allotments, what a job!
God had prepared him during the long years of wilderness wandering as Moses’ servant. God exalted Joshua in the sight of the millions of Israelites.
On that day the Lord exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they stood in awe of him just as they had stood in awe of Moses, all the days of his life. Joshua 4:14
I’ve read the Book of Joshua many times. I’ve even written a set of Bible lessons on Joshua’s “adventures.” But this is the first time I have read it and tried to put myself in his shoes. Of course, those shoes swallow me. Compared to him I’m no bigger than a ladybug, but I’ve also experienced putting my faith in the Lord and seeing miracles!
One of the secrets to Joshua’s success is that he followed the Lords’ instructions, given to him at the beginning of his ministry.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8
God’s Word is the foundation, a true and solid rock to stand on, because not even an iota will pass away. Every word written in God’s Book is true and will come to pass.
Let me give you tree easy steps to remember, things that God said to Joshua, and that no doubt he says to each one of us.
SPEAK the Word
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth.”
MEDITATE on the Word
“You shall meditate on it day and night.”
DO according to the Word
“Do according to all that is written in it.”
For those of us who are visual learners I’ve done an illustration to help us think of the three important things God instructed Joshua. Mouth, heart, and hands. The Word is in your heart. You meditate on it day and night, and it flows out through your hands. You do it!
What three promises did Joshua receive?
- No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life.
- Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
- I will not leave you or forsake you.
“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.
7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.” Joshua 1:5-7
We can trust the Lord to be with us, just as He was with Joshua. Jesus, our “Joshua,” has promised:
“For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matthew 5:18
Amid your Christmas “busyness” take the time to speak the Word, meditate on it, and do according to what is written. That’s the road to success.
God is with us. Jesus is “God with us.” Christmas is the glorious Season of remembering the most precious gift ever given to men. Jesus is the Reason for the Season!
Not one iota of everything God has promised in his Word will pass away. Everything will come to pass. Even the smallest step of faith can activate a mighty miracle.
The most glorious thing that has not been fulfilled yet is that Jesus is coming again. Are you excited about His coming? A meeting in the clouds awaits us!
If you are not sure about this, sent me a note so I can help you. We all need to be ready for Jesus’ return.
May you be blessed beyond measure!
